How it works

Assessments from the comfort of your own home! When you begin one of our assessments online your child will be guided through a series of steps. We've crafted the assessments to enable us to give you valuable feedback on your child's progress. Here's how it works.

School Supply

01

Choose Your Assessment

Once you have selected the end-of-phase assessment that you require, sign up by creating an account on our website. This is your online portal, and will enable you to come back at any point in the future.

02

Complete the Assessment

When you are ready, begin the online assessment with your child. Each assessment has a unique combination of questions to answer, audio clips to listen to, together with reading and writing exercises. The online portal will guide you every step of the way. Prefer a pen-and-paper experience? We got you! A PDF version of the assessment will be emailed to you as soon as you sign up. All of our assessments are available in both online and PDF formats.

03

Receive your report

After we have carefully reviewed your assessment we will send you a report (usually within a week). This report contains a detailed analysis of your child's progress and will highlight areas that need attention. It's signed off by an accredited educator.

04

Improve, adapt, overcome!

Using our feedback, you will have the tools needed to tweak and refine your homeschooling journey. We aim to provide helpful tips and pointers that will help you to keep your child on track. This continuous process is the best way of staying ahead in your teaching!

  • How do the assessments work?
We have an easy-to-use online platform that will guide you and your child through the assessment process. Some questions are multiple choice, others require answers to be typed in online. Other questions require uploads of reading and writing samples which are then sent to the Assess by Lauren WhatsApp number. Once the assessment/s are complete, a report will be emailed to you which can be sent to the department of education. If you prefer pen-and-paper, you are welcome to print out the PDF version (which will be emailed to you as soon as you sign up).
  • I am not using CAPS as my curriculum, can I still use these assessments?
Yes! These assessments are CAPS aligned to assess whether children have met the minimum CAPS requirements. The English, Maths and Afrikaans assessments are mostly skills based and are a helpful measure of whether your child is at the skill level required by the CAPS documents. These skills will be similar across curriculums.
  • How do I know what each assessment covers?
Our assessments are aligned with the CAPS requirements. Most homeschooling curriculums exceed this standard. This means that your child should be competent in the basic categories of each subject, and will already be familiar with the content in the assessments.
  • What if the questions are too difficult for my child?
Our assessments are carefully crafted to allow us to pinpoint your child's educational progress. As such, some questions may be easy and others may be challenging. Our assessments are not pass/fail based (like an exam). Instead, the results will highlight key areas that may need improving.
  • Can I print these assessments out?
Yes! All of our assessments are available either online (through our convenient online portal), or PDF format. You are welcome to print the PDF assessment out, and send it back to us when you are done.
  • Why are there only assessments for Grade 3 and Grade 6?
The DBE requires reports by competent assessors at the end of the junior, intermediate and senior phases (grades 3, 6, and 9). We are working to make assessments for additional grades available soon. Grades 6 is in the works (we hope to have them available by the end of November) and Grade 9 will become available next year.
  • Can my child be assessed every year?
While we do not currently have other grades available, the plan is to make assessments available as a pdf for the in-between grades soon (i.e not the end of phase grades). These will be available for download with the option of being marked by either the parents, or being returned to us for review.
